We are an independently owned, approved energy saving company who specialise in roof coatings, roof repair, roof replacement and solar electric tile installations.

6. What coating products do you offer?
Our two most popular products for work on domestic houses are:
Aqua Clear
Aqua Clear is a colourless waterproofing coating that penetrates deep beneath the surface forming a waterproof barrier within the tiles on your roof. This gives you property the protection, but will not change the appearance of your roof. Also prevents heat loss, makes your house feel warm and welcoming, and lowers your energy bills.
Colour Roof Coatings
Our coatings are supplied by a UK owned company and are manufactured under very strict guidelines. Our products are very specialist and cannot be bought, or applied, by anyone other than us. Colour roof coatings have the same weather proofing properties as Aqua Clear and are available in a range of beautiful colours to enhance your home. All products meet BSI standards.
7. How do you apply your Aqua Protection roof coating products?
Step 1 - Cleaning Down
The tiles are extensively cleaned by our 360 directional hydro wash system to eliminate all traces of moss, lichen, algae, carbonation and pollutants. We also clean the guttering and fascias to eliminate all traces of unwanted film and other build up. This is then bagged and removed from the site. Protective coverings are used around your property to protect it and its surroundings.
Step 2 - Fungicidal Flush
A bio degradable water based solution is then applied to infuse the roofs surface, this treatment will stop any hidden spores or moss from becoming active. This will also stop any future growth and will prevent any underlying deterioration to the sealant process and the top coatings.
Step 3 - Restoration Work
All loose and broken mortar between ridges crests and hip tiles are hacked out and treated by re-pointing with re-enforced mortar. We then address any loose caps, ridges or crests, these are re-bedded using specialist alignment equipment to achieve the Grade ‘A’ roofing standard that we meet. All damaged, broken or exfoliated roof tiles will be replaced. The mortar verges will also be sealed, skimmed and treated within this process.
Step 4 - Sealant Process
Aqua Pro sealant is a major part of the Therma Pro System; this has to be applied to the full surface of the roof that is being treated, which will reinforce the micro-elasticity to exfoliated tiles allowing them to bond. This will stabilise and seal the roofs surface and also creates the perfect platform for the top coats to be applied.
Step 5 - Top Coats
These are applied using specialist spray equipment imported from America. The first coat is applied and must be allowed to dry and bond before the second coat can be applied (drying time will vary depending on weather conditions). The second coat is then applied which in turn will result in the look of a newly fitted roof.
Once our roof renovation system is complete, you will be able to see the dramatic change to the appearance of your home; this will add value to the property and increase the life span to your roof and now coming with a fifteen year guarantee.

9. Are your roof coatings breathable?
Yes, all our roof coatings are fully breathable and act like the human skin, allowing moisture to evaporate, but repelling water from going into the roof. Protective roof coatings are micro porous and as such can be compared also to billions of tiny little valves across the whole external roofs surface.
10. Will a salesman call on me?
NO, absolutely NOT! Our meeting with you is designed to be informal and relaxed. THIS SERVICE IS FREE OF CHARGE AND WITHOUT OBLIGATION.
In summary, unlike other similar roof coating companies we do not:
Cold call you on the phone and force, pressure or convince you to accept an appointment to see us.
We don't bother you late evenings or other unsocial hours unless it's the only time you are available, and you have personally requested an appointment at an unsocial hour.

11. You offer a 15 year guarantee, is it worth the paper it's written on?
Yes, definitely! We would not offer a guarantee unless it meant something to our many customers. Any warranty offered on a service or a product should offer the customer complete peace of mind, however there have been many companies in the roofing industry who have not honoured their guarantees or have gone out of business.
WE OFFER A 15 YEAR WRITTEN GUARANTEE ON ALL PRODUCTS. Basically, we have been here for 23 years and we will be here for another 23 years, but our guarantee gives our customers reassurance. So in answer to the question, the guarantee is worth far more than the paper it's written on! Your warranty is usually issued up to 2 weeks after the completion of the job, although the terms of the warranty start from day one after we finish. The guarantee covers all exterior roof coating products, and building work, AND workmanship for a period of 15 years.
Our guarantee covers you against the HIGHLY unlikely event of our coating fading, cracking, peeling or flaking or falling off, something that has never happened, but it's good to have the peace of mind anyway.
12. I bought a can of roof coating paint which gives a guarantee so what's so good about yours?
Just like everything, there are disclaimers and get-out clauses for the manufacturer. Many good quality roof paints offer some form of guarantee, but it's very hard to claim on the guarantee unless of course, the product is used by an experienced trade professional, such as a "Dulux approved decorator" etc. and the application of such paint or roof coatings can be proved to be as per factory specifications.
The AQUA PROTECTION exterior roof coating system has a specific menu to adhere to when they install the coating, and are mainly supervised throughout. There are many other aspects of a successful application of our coating that require months, even years of rigorous training and skill.
Any roof coating will only last for the allotted time if it is applied in the correct manner and BY THE BOOK. That is, all due care and attention is given to extensive preparation. All due attention is given to seasonal and weather conditions, and the correct equipment is used to apply the product. Equally, the amount of product used can indicate how long a coating will last on a tiled roof.

As no two roofs are the same, and of course, considering our personal service, it is usually best if we see your roof before we give you a price.
Unlike other coating companies, a price enquiry is FREE and does NOT commit you to buy. If you are solely looking for something cheap and cheerful, don't call us! If you are looking for a quality product and quality service, please make your enquiry. Asking us questions is what we like, and this will not cost you a penny. We wont pressure you for anything, don't worry!!

A deposit is payable upon placing an order with us. You are provided with a receipt or invoice on request. This is of course negotiable and without pressure. We accept Cheques, Cash (Please note this is not "cash in hand", all monies are accounted for and the transactions recorded). In some cases, we can also accept major credit and debit cards. Finance is also available, written details are available on request.

Well, it's not as scary as you may think! We are open for your convenience 7 days a week, 24 hours a day, however if our office cannot direct your call immediately to an expert then we will take a message instead, so please tell the receptionist your requirements and we will return your call shortly thereafter.

16. Then what happens?
If you contact us by email using the CONTACT form, so be sure to include a valid e-mail address. We speak to you first by phone to find out your exact requirements and to discuss the options you have available to you.
We then arrange a date and time to visit you in your home and survey your roof (FREE of charge) and then prepare a written specification and quote for you. This will take about 10- 15 minutes to survey depending on the size and condition of your roof.
We point out any problems you may have on the roof like re-pointing to cables, ridges and valleys, re-setting of the ridge, broken tiles and caps and any loose brickwork or masonry that may cause concern etc. and explain what has happened and how we can fix it.
We then show you samples of our product and photos of previous jobs.
We then calculate a total price for you, this is a guaranteed price with no hidden charges or surprises, and we will leave a copy of this in writing for you.
You do not have to make a decision on the day and are under no obligation to do so, however if you like what you see and the price is right, it does help us get things moving quicker if you do tell us on the day we see you. If you decide to go ahead and have the work done, we prepare some simple paperwork with you, outlining exactly what work we are doing for you for a fixed price. We then take photographic records of the present state of your roof. You may then also choose from a range of colours.

17. Do your roof coatings last as long as you say?
Yes! Our coatings last for around 20 years, and this comes with a comprehensive 15 year written guarantee for your peace of mind and reassurance.
And we would like to point out that other roof coating companies today, will in some cases last for many years, but you will have to contact the many manufacturers who supply them with their coatings to find out as to there authenticity. The industry has been given a bad name by one man bands and wan Abe professionals who will not even do half a job never mind a full one. Make sure you get what you pay for, ask for a detailed copy of all works they are going to perform to your home. Also ask for a business card or get the quote or price on a piece of headed paper with names and addresses, and then you can at least call the numbers to make sure you can get the persons to validate there existence. Watch out for this as it is happening on a day to day basis, and many people are getting ripped off. This is most annoying not just for us as we need to clear up behind them, but for you the customer.

18. Are your products and services expensive?
No, not really!

20. Do you ever "cold call" people to sell home improvements?
No we don't! Unlike many of our competitors, we don't cold call anyone, EVER, and we don't have a telesales policy, we don't do mass leaflet drops through Royal Mail, (we only ever deliver a few leaflets around jobs we are working on), we don't do door canvassing and we don't do shows. Our marketing is almost exclusively online and through word of mouth. We don't hassle you! Please don't confuse us with other companies. Why you should not accept an appointment when approached out of the blue on your doorstep. THESE PEOPLE ARE NOT DOING YOU A FAVOUR, THEY ARE SELLING TO YOU! They will sell you a coating even if it looks ridiculous on your roof and ruins the character. They've got your money, and to be frank, that is all they care about in most cases. We sometimes make a few courtesy calls to neighbours around where we are working in a particular street, just to get our name known in the area, which is the only exception to the above.
21. If I call or email you for a quote, how long does it take before you come to see me?
That depends on the time of year and how busy we are. With our recent expansion and implementation of a dedicated call centre, we aim to respond to all enquiries within one working day, usually sooner.
Normally, we can see you within a week and in most cases sooner: This depends on the time of year and how busy the surveying department are.
As a polite note, please make sure that you are actually in when they call if you have arranged a time and date with them!!!!
If for any reason you have to change the meeting, please contact us as soon as possible.

22. When ordering with you, how long will I have to wait for the job to be done?
Once again, that depends on the time of year. During the summer there is sometimes a short wait, but sometimes the "turnaround" can be a matter of a week or so, it just depends on our workload at the time and you would be kept informed of progress and/or expected start date at every opportunity. Your surveyor is also your 1st point of call and they always make sure they leave their full contact details, including office address, before they leave your property.
23. So, if I placed an order, how long would it take to actually do a roof coating treatment on my house?
Once again, that depends on the weather conditions, time of year, size of your house or commercial building, and the amount of repair and remedial work needed to the roof.
The smallest roofs with very little roof area, good access and good weather, can take as little as a one day, thus causing you the minimum of disruption. Larger roofs can take anything up to five days, depending on the weather this sometimes take longer. We try as hard as we can to minimise any hassle and disruption to your normal routine.
Unlike your typical "local builder", we don't have our teams trying to do several jobs at the same time, spending a day here and there on each one! When our teams turn up to do the work, at a pre agreed date and time, they will in most cases concentrate SOLELY on your roof until it's finished.
24. Will some companies apply their product to anything as long as they get a sale?
Yes, unfortunately in most cases this is true, but not for AQUA PROTECTION as we are actively sought to be one of the more credible, ethical and honest roofing company and we would not, and have never sold, a roof coating to be applied on a property that would ruin its character and features that are part of the character of the property.
We work WITH your home, not against it. If we feel that your home would NOT be suited for a roof coating, we reserve the right refuse to sell it to you. We will try and come to a compromise with alternative products such as Aqua Clear, this clear treatment gives you all the protection but will not changing the appearance to your roof, don't confuse us with others. We won't ruin your house! Quite the opposite in fact...
25. Do you only work in the spring and summer?
No, not at all, we work all year around, including Christmas time, although the weather during this time can disrupt and delay jobs but we do try and minimise this where possible by careful planning. We often offer generous incentives to keep our staff working all year round, so the winter can be a very good time to get it done! Why wait until we are all busy?
26. What other products do you sell apart from roof coatings?
We offer spray applied exterior wall coatings, GRP flat roof systems, commercial painting, damp proofing, re-pointing, rendering, building alterations and so on. We can make the outside of your house, bungalow, office or commercial building, completely free of maintenance for up to 30 years.

28. So you offer a guarantee on your roof coatings, what happens if I move home?
Good question. Your guarantee with us is affiliated to your property, and as such, when you move, the guarantee can be transferred to the new owner, as long as you inform us of this in writing of any changes as soon as possible. Having an AQUA PROTECTION roof coating on your home can also be a good selling point. If you live in the United Kingdom, your home may be subject to a HIPS pack if you plan to sell. Our guarantee should be enclosed in your HIP pack for the buyer to view. When you sell, please tell the buyer to contact us so that we may change the guarantee into their name.
29. You say your roof coating will lower our heating bills? How?
How does it work?
Therma Pro is made up of Insulating structures that were developed by NASA to combat the high temperatures encountered by the space shuttle on re-entry. Insulating structures reflect and refract heat like the tiles on the space shuttle. It is a known fact that NOTHING can travel via conduction through a vacuum, not even heat. The resulting structure is, in effect, a mini thermos flask. Applied to surfaces like roofs and walls this reduces heat loss, keeping your property warmer and saving you money by reducing your energy costs. Therma Pro system works by slowing down the rate of heat loss through the substrate. However, the Therma Pro insulating structures work by helping to prevent the heat getting through the substrate, by reflecting the heat BACK into the property.
30. If you worked on my roof, would it require scaffolding?
In many cases yes, but sometimes our teams use "tower" (portable) scaffolding, cherry pickers or ladders. Your surveyor would inform you at the survey stage if scaffolding is required. We normally include a cost for this in the price we quote you. We treat the health and safety of our installation teams as importantly as we treat the safety of our customers, and of course the general public. We don't take risks!
PLEASE NOTE: IF WE DO WORK ON YOUR PROPERTY, IT IS ALSO YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO KEEP PETS AND CHILDREN AWAY FROM SCAFFOLDING.
31. Would I need planning permission to have my roof coated?
In most cases you would not, however if the building is in a listed or in a conservation area then permission may be needed. This would be identified at the survey stage, long before we start the work.
32. Does your Aqua Clear system change the appearance of the roof?
NO! Aqua Clear coatings are absorbed slightly into the roof tiles, and form a semi-permeable barrier against dampness. Unlike competitor's brands of roof coating, it does not leave sheen like appearance. Ask us for a free demonstration....
33. I have read on another roof coatings website that coatings are self-cleaning. Is this correct?
That's not strictly true, but as a roof coating covering does not absorb water or minerals in the atmosphere, dirt usually washes off every time it rains. Your roof simply would require a wash down with a garden hose with a spray fitting on the end, and it will come up good as new! This is only normally done every five years, and if you are one of our previous customers, we also offer this service upon request.
34. My roof was coated five years ago by another company, and there's now a small problem with the roof coating but the contractor who did it has gone out of business, is my guarantee worthless?
Probably yes, I'm sorry to say, although it's worth running the contract and guarantee through a solicitor or citizens advice to see if you can obtain some compensation, although with our experience in helping others in a similar position, this is unlikely. Check all documentation though as there may have been warranty insurance provided by the contractor, although with our experience, this is EXTREMELY hard to claim back on. This has been a common problem in the UK roof coating business for many years. The best course of action would be contact another roof coating company, explain the problem to them, and maybe if applicable, get them to come around and take a look. (NOTE: There may be a small charge for this service). For any remedial work on a coating, most if not all coating companies will charge you for doing the work, and if it's a small area, they may be a hefty premium to pay. It May be worthwhile to get another company to totally re-do the affected part of the roof.
35. Are my details safe with you?
Yes, no records are ever revealed to anyone outside the company, nor are your details sold on for marketing purposes; all information you provide us remains confidential, and, should you subsequently become one of our customers, you have the right to request all information we hold about you at any stage, including any communication and/or transaction details upon request.
36. If I request a FREE survey, do I have to buy from you?
No, not at all! Unlike some of our competitors, we do not pressure you in any way, nor do we subject you to a gruelling sales pitch. Our visits are always at your request, and usually last no more than an thirty minutes. Our visit normally involves an informal discussion, viewing examples and colour samples, and a discussion and viewing of the property in question. We of course also survey and measure the property and present a price to you. If you have only a limited amount of time to see our surveyor, please tell them that before they drive 100 miles to see you! We can provide a specification of works and written quote upon request. The choice to employ our services is yours, not ours!
37. Can you give me an estimate of cost over the phone or by email?
No, sorry, it is impossible to guess how much the work will cost as each job is taken on a "per project" basis, so the only way to get a price is for us to visit your home or commercial premises. You are under no obligation and this service is totally free.

38. Do you repair "cowboy" roof coating jobs done by others?
Unfortunately yes, this is an aspect of our work. If you have a roof that has been previously coated and this has failed as they did not do the job properly, we can fix it for you, and in some cases issue a new guarantee on the part of the house repaired by us, although as a general rule we usually have to re-do an entire roof, rather than one small bit.

40. I have some rare plants in my garden; what happens to them if your company coats my roof?
Good question. Our skilled operatives take a tremendous amount of time and care in protecting areas adjacent to the area they are working in. Bushes and shrubs are covered over and treated with the utmost care. For borders and trailing plants, we also take a tremendous amount of care not to damage them in any way. If you subsequently have work done to your home by us, we are happy to work with you to protect your plants. This also applies to lawns and driveways, which are always fully protected.
41. How do I remove roof coatings from pipes or windows?
Any professional company will NEVER leave any mess once a roof coating job is completed. If you have fallen victim to a cowboy roof coating company, here's what to do if they have left a mess...........
Excess roof coating cannot be washed off with water as it is of course a waterproof coating, however to remove overspray, simply soak a rag in white sprit and rub hard. Then allow to mist over, and wipe down with a clean cloth. This also applies to windows and glass, although that particular cleaning method must also be accompanied by a scraper.
The only way to remove paint spots from a path or driveway is by a wire brush and a high pressure hose, again, it cannot be washed off.
AQUA PROTECTION ALWAYS takes a lot of time and care in protecting areas not being sprayed, so this is not something that happens to us, however I hope the above information is helpful.
42. If your teams are working outside on my roof, what about my fish pond?
We always protect fish ponds by temporarily placing a cover over the water to protect the fish. We also work closely with you to ensure their safety and well being whilst works are being carried out.
If the pond were NOT to be covered, a fine oily film would settle on the water, and cut off the oxygen supply to the fish; so of course, all fish ponds are treated very seriously by us. Roof coating should NEVER be introduced to any water supply and are always disposed of by our teams, legally, safely and in an environmentally sound way.
43. Is your coating harmful to Animals and what about the safety of my pets if you did work on my house?
Here at AQUA PROTECTION, we treat health and safety VERY seriously.
All paints, coatings are harmful to animals, even the top brand paints you find in stores. You must ALWAYS keep both pets and children away from any construction related activity on your home. Paint and coatings should NEVER be ingested by animals or humans. If we eventually do some work for you, we kindly ask you to keep all pets and animals away from the work area. If you have any special requirements, then please tell the surveyor when they arrive to measure and survey your home.
44. Are your people fully insured?
We are legally obliged to have insurance and you as the customer can request to see proof of this at any time.
45. Do you only refurbish private homes?
No, not at all; we can repair and coat any roof with concrete or clay tiles with the AQUA PROTECTION SYSTEM, including shops, factories, hotels, guest houses, hospitals, public houses, restaurants and cafe's, petrol stations and virtually all other types of buildings with concrete or clay tiles.
46. Can you coat over an existing roof coating?
Well, if you want to re-coat then it is usually best to remove the roof coating that is there already! Most coatings are applied in 2 coats and require often the removal of the existing roof surface in order for the coating to establish a "key", or "adhesion" to the tile, so the answer to your question is no, you should not coat straight over a roof coating, although like many cases, there are exceptions to the rule. Please contact us if you require further technical advice.
47. Are there any hidden costs?
No! The surveyor, who would come and visit you, is just that, a SURVEYOR, NOT A COMMISSION HUNGRY SALESMAN, with many years of training and experience.
The surveyor will SURVEY (!) your roof, note any problems we would have to fix or repair, and then calculate a FIXED PRICE cost while he or she is there. The price we give you would include scaffolding if required, materials, VAT and so on.
The price you see is the price you pay!
This means that for example if we quoted you and we eventually did the work for you, the bill at the end would be as stated, and not anything added on! Even if subsequently, we discovered more repairs that needed doing, they would still be included in the price and you would NOT be asked for more money! I Hope that answers your question.
48. What types of repairs do you undertake on houses?
Well, point number 1 would be the fact that you do NOT have to get a builder to carry out repairs before we repaint the external part of your home, we do ALL the repairs for you as part of our service.
Secondly, the types of repair work we do include: Damp proof courses (DPC), penetrating damp, the removal of algae, moss and mould from roofs, re -pointing or replacing bricks, scraping back loose paint, removing old and un-used items at your request (eg, redundant lights), repairs to Tyrolean, pebbledash, spar dash and render, filling in holes, correcting previously badly carried out repairs by others, and so on.
49. Do you only do the paint colours listed on your colour chart page?
No, not all, we do a massive range of colours in both paint and exterior coatings.
The standard colour chart lists our most popular colours, but we can mix and match virtually any paint colour you require. If you have a historic or listed building, we can also match the traditional colour. If you have a can of ordinary paint or a colour swatch from a DIY store, in most cases we can ALMOST match that but in such cases, please bear in mind many of the larger paint factories have their own paint colours sometimes protected by trade mark and patent so an exact match is not always possible for legal and logistical reasons.
If you are unsure about colour, we will show you many samples and examples of the different colour effects and schemes available in the AQUA PROTECTION range.
50. Can this home improvement work contribute to my HOME REPORT (home report certificate)
Yes it can. As of December 2008, all domestic properties that are offered for sale in Scotland will be required to produce a Home Report before they can be placed on the market.
The Home Report is to provide potential buyers with more information about the property before they consider making an offer. A copy of the Home Report should be made available to all interested parties considering making an offer. Failure to provide a copy of this document could lead to a penalty charge of up to £500.
The Home Report consists of three main documents: the Energy Report, Single Survey and Property Questionnaire.
The Energy Report (EPC) is a document that provides information regarding the energy performance of the building, mostly the energy usage, carbon dioxide emissions and fuel costs of the building.
The building is given a rating on a scale of A - G (A being the most efficient, G the least efficient). We have carried out many installations to properties taking them from a 'G' rating to as high as a 'B' rating with the energy solutions we offer, you would also be issued a guarantee for 15 years. This guarantee will form part of your Home Report, making it more attractive to purchasers when buying your property.
51. Why can I not find any prices on this site?
No two houses are ever the same and some houses require more preparation, for example, than others. Some houses require scaffolding, some don't. ... We are happy to discuss your requirements with you on the phone, but we have to see your roof in order to give you a price, it's as simple as that!
52. Do you do small roofs?
That's a difficult question. As you may have realised, we usually need to see the roof before we can tell if it's something we can do, however as a general rule, if it's only one very small roof, then usually no, we cant.
This is because of the fact that our teams may have to travel a long way around the country to work on various projects and with our accommodation and travel expenses taken out of the price, if its only one small roof, we probably couldn't do it!
As a rough guide, and especially as we are by far NOT the most expensive company that does this, if you have a roof that is LESS THAN 50 square meters, we couldn't help you.
