Aqua Clear
Aqua Clear is a colourless waterproof coating that penetrates deep beneath the surface forming a waterproof barrier within the tiles on your roof. Aqua Clear is a wonderful product in that it guarantees roof protection without changing the appearance of your roof. Another very important benefit in today’s economic climate is that Aqua Clear also prevents heat loss thereby lowering your energy bills. Suddenly you will notice your house feeling warm and welcoming, without needing to turn the thermostat up.
Colour Roof Coatings
Colour roof coatings have the same weather proofing properties as Aqua Clear and are available in a range of beautiful colours to enhance your home.
Our Colour roof coatings are made especially for Aqua Protection and are not sold or applied by anyone other than ourselves. They are manufactured in the UK under very strict guidelines and meet BSI and BBA standards.
7. How do you apply your Aqua Protection roof coating products?
There are 5 key steps to applying roof coating products;
Step 1: Cleaning Down
A multi-directional pressure jet system is used on the tiles to thoroughly clean and remove all traces of pollutants, moss, lichen, algae, and carbonation. It is surprising how much build-up of dirt can develop over the years and so the first process always involves removing this excess dirt. Special attention is made to the gutters and edging to be sure they are free from unwanted film and other build-up. Our teams at Aqua Protection make it a priority to protect coverings and safeguard the surroundings.
Step 2: Biocide Flush
We apply a bio degradable solution to your roof in order to further eliminate any underlying active infestation of lichen spores and moss. This is important in the prevention of future re-growth and in preventing any spoilage to underneath the finished coating.
Step 3: Restoration Work
Defective mortar between crests, ridge and hip tiles need to be identified and then removed. They are then re-pointed using a fibre re-enforced polymer mortar. Should there be any loose ridges or crests then these are re-bedded. Whilst we’re there, all damage to mortar verges will be resealed.
We here at Aqua Protection do our best to match the tiles on your roof with the same or similar design. We want you to be totally satisfied with the work we do.
Step 4: Sealant Process
Aqua Pro sealant is then applied to all areas being treated so as to restore micro-porosity to weathered tiles. This sealant acts as a stable top coat refining and securing the surface from the effects of weathering in preparation for the top coats.
Step 5: Top Coats
A specialised industrial spray machine is used to apply the top coats. This machine has been imported from the United States and can only be used by people who have undergone special training and have years of experience in the trade
At this point the whole process is complete. A team supervisor will then walk you around your newly refurbished roof for you to inspect. Should there be anything that you feel is not up to your expectations then we will do our best to appease. Once you are fully satisfied, we kindly ask if you would mind completing a satisfaction report. At this point the final balance is then due.
Aqua Protection will then carry out a further site visit after the job has been completed so that we can inspect the installation carried out on your roof. We like to ensure that each and every installation meets with our quality control guidelines. You would then shortly thereafter be issued with your personalised 15 year written guarantee.

9. Are your roof coatings breathable?
Yes we like to compare our roof coatings to human skin. It is indeed breathable allowing moisture to evaporate whilst acting as a repellent to water going into the roof. Protective roof coatings are micro porous and as such can be compared also to billions of tiny little valves across the whole external roofs surface.
10. Will I be visited by a salesman?
NO, definitely NOT! We do not believe in bullying our customers. We believe in offering our guidance and support without ploys or hidden extras. We enjoy meeting our clients for a relaxed informal discussion without attempting to force our customers into any unnecessary commitment.
We do not recruit sales people to come and bother you in your home. We employ highly skilled and experienced individuals who are there to fulfil your requirements and advise you on your project.

12. I bought a can of roof coating paint which gives a guarantee so what's so good about yours?
Although some manufacturers claim to offer a guarantee on their products, it is important that you know that many have certain disclaimers and get-out clauses in place. Sometimes claims will only be accepted if the product has been applied by an experienced trade professional such as a “Dulux approved decorator” etc. Often the claimant has to prove that a fault with the product, and not with the application.

13. What would an AQUA PROTECTION roof coating system cost?

Every roof is different and therefore every quote is different. We prefer to visit your property before supplying you with a quote. We do not however charge for this service and do not ask you to commit to anything before you have gone away and thought about what it is you want.

16. Then what happens?
If you contact us by email using the CONTACT form, so be sure to include a valid e-mail address. We speak to you first by phone to find out your exact requirements and to discuss the options you have available to you.
We then arrange a date and time to visit you in your home and survey your roof (FREE of charge) and then prepare a written specification and quote for you. This will take about 10- 15 minutes to survey depending on the size and condition of your roof.
We point out any problems you may have on the roof like re-pointing to cables, ridges and valleys, re-setting of the ridge, broken tiles and caps and any loose brickwork or masonry that may cause concern etc. and explain what has happened and how we can fix it.
We then show you samples of our product and photos of previous jobs.
We then calculate a total price for you, this is a guaranteed price with no hidden charges or surprises, and we will leave a copy of this in writing for you.
You do not have to make a decision on the day and are under no obligation to do so, however if you like what you see and the price is right, it does help us get things moving quicker if you do tell us on the day we see you. It is competitively priced with 8.0% APR Typical for loans between £7,500 and £14,999. The exact rate will depend on your circumstances and also on the amount of the loan. 20. Do you ever "cold call" people to sell home improvements?
We don’t like cold calling so we don’t do it. Aqua Protection rely on their excellent product and delivery as their marketing campaign, rather than mass leaflet drops or employing telesales staff. We don’t believe that hassling people results in happy customers. We believe that a respectful and fundamentally a professional manner is the best way to do business.
21. If I call or email you for a quote, how long does it take before you come to see me?
Aqua Protection have dedicated professionals on hand waiting to deal with your enquiry. We aim to respond to your enquiry within one working day but should you call at a busy time of year then it may be a little longer.
Normally, we can see you within a week and in most cases sooner. This depends on the time of year and how busy the surveying department are.
As a polite note, please make sure that you are actually in when they call if you have arranged a time and date with them!

22. When ordering with you, how long will I have to wait for the job to be done?
Again, this depends on the how busy we are and what time of year it is. Summer is our busiest time so you may have to wait a week or so but not as long as some of our competitors. We like to keep our customers informed of your expected start date and also provide contact details of your surveyor so that you may get in touch with them whenever you feel necessary.
23. So, if I placed an order, how long would it take to actually do a roof coating treatment on my house?
Admittedly, it would be very convenient for all involved if we could say precisely how long a job will take but unfortunately every roof is different and we cannot account for disruptive weather conditions. We can give you an idea as to how long it would take in ideal conditions but this may change and we wouldn’t want to disappoint you. Small roofs with minimal repair can take as little as a day to complete however larger roofs with extensive repair and remedial work may take a week or longer, again depending on the weather conditions.
We try to complete the work thoroughly without elongating disruption to your daily life. Here at Aqua Protection we like to make your job our sole concern at the time of repair. Unlike independent builders our teams usually don’t deal with multiple projects at one time. In this way we can concentrate on your roof and get it done in the most efficient way possible.
24. Do some roof coating businesses use their products inappropriately just to get a sale?
Yes it is true there are numerous companies out there that care less about your roof or you as a customer and more about how to get as much money out of you as possible. 28. So you offer a guarantee on your roof coatings, what happens if I move home?
The Guarantee is affiliated to your property so if you move house then the guarantee should be transferred to the new owners. This is easy to do. Just be sure to inform us in writing as soon as possible so that we can make the administrative changes.
Don’t forget that having an Aqua Protection roof coating on your home is a selling point so if you are selling your home be sure to mention it to all potential buyers!
If you live in the UK and need to supply a HIP pack then make sure you include our guarantee for the buyer to view.
29. How will the roof coating lower my heating bills?
The thickness of the roof coating we apply is 20 times thicker than normal paint. This product also contains specialist resins and fillers that reduce wind chill, increase the heat to your roof, and eliminate damp. You will notice shortly after that your house is not so cold and so you will not need to turn the thermostat so high. In this way you will see a reduction in your heating bill.
We also offer free damp surveys to anyone who suspects they may have a problem with damp. Houses that have problems with damp can quite often leave to health problems. This is not a selling tactic. This is true so please seek help should you suspect you have a problem with damp.
30. Do I need to have my house covered in scaffolding?
Unfortunately in most cases we do need to use scaffolding to effectively complete a project. However sometimes our teams use “tower” scaffolding, cherry pickers or even simply ladders to complete the work. If scaffolding is something that concerns you then be sure to ask your surveyor at the time of survey. If scaffolding is required then we will include the cost for this in the breakdown of costs in your quote.
Scaffolding is often a necessary part of roof work in order to secure the safety of our teams that will be working on your property. It is there for your safety and theirs. If we do bring scaffolding to your property please do keep pets and children away from it at all times.
31. Do I need to apply for planning permission?
When you have a new roof coating you usually do not need to apply for planning permission. However if the building is in a protected conservation area or is a listed building then permission may be necessary. This would be decided at the point of survey long before the job begins.
32. Is the roof cosmetically any different if Aqua Clear is applied?
No it will not. Aqua Clear is designed to protect the roof by forming a semi-permeable barrier against dampness, whilst protecting the appearance of your roof. Aqua Clear also has the added benefit of not leaving a sheen-like appearance unlike some of our competitors’ products.

33. Are coatings self-cleaning?
Although the coating is not self-cleaning, it does act as a barrier in that dirt usually washes off instead of being absorbed when it rains. A simple spray with a hose or jet wash will bring the roof up to looking like new. We recommend this to be done once every 5 years and are happy to offer this service to our customers upon request.
34. Another company did my roof coating a few years ago and now I have a problem with it. I have tried to contact them but they seem to have disappeared. Is my guarantee valid anywhere else?
Unfortunately it is not. This is why we recommend that you choose a roof coatings company that has been around for many years and has a good reputation in the building trade. However you could take your guarantee to a solicitor or to citizen’s advice to see if you can get some compensation. However in our experience, compensation is a rarity.
Do be sure however to thoroughly check all your documentation as the contractor may have provided warranty insurance. However this is near impossible to claim back on. The best suggestion is usually to contact another roof coatings company to come and sort the problem out. However they are likely to charge and it may seem like a high cost for a small problem. At this stage often people choose to redo their roof coating with a reputable company that offers a concrete guarantee.

As mentioned previously, the people at Aqua Protection take confidentiality very seriously and are very careful with information that our customers supply. We do not pass on any of your information to anyone outside of the company, not even for marketing purposes.
You can of course request that we send you all the information we have about you including communication and transaction details. Simply request this in writing to your contractor who will be working on your home.
36. If someone comes to survey my house do I have to buy the product and service from you?
No definitely not! Just because you have a free survey does not mean you have to choose us to do the job. Aqua Protection do not like to pressurise our customers and like to stress that you indeed have the right to go away and think about it and let us know when it is convenient for you! We do not train our staff to give you a pushy sales pitch as we feel that only proves to drive people away rather than gain their trust.
Our visit normally includes an informal discussion and survey of the property, together with an opportunity for you to have a rummage through colour samples. We will then provide you with a detailed specification of works including a breakdown of cost as part of the quote.
37. I really need to know how much it costs now. Can't you tell me over the phone without seeing my house?
I’m sorry but it truly is impossible to guess what your roof looks like, especially if you haven’t been up there yourself to have a look at it. We really must survey your property before being able to come up with any figures. Although it may be inconvenient for you to arrange a time with us so that we may come to view the property, we do stress the importance before generating a quote.
Also, we do not give quotes unless you are the owner of the property for privacy and legal reasons.
38. Would you repair my roof if another company have done a poor job?
Yes of course we would be happy to correct previous work on your roof. We understand that sometimes you have to kiss a few frogs before you find your Prince, and the same goes in the building trade. Usually however we find that it is necessary to redo an entire roof rather than just one small part as the products we use will differ from the products previously used. We will however give you a new guarantee for the all the work we have done.
39. What are your opening hours?
All day, every day. We are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and 365 days a year! Should you need to talk to someone about your roof on Christmas Day then we are here to help. You never know what damage Father Christmas can do to your roof!

40. Do you take care to protect my rare plants in my garden when you apply the roof coating?
Yes we will. We are meticulously careful that we protect areas near the area where the work is taking place. We protect lawns and driveways, bushes and shrubs, borders and trailing plants just to name a few. We will work with you to highlight important features and areas that you want protected so you can feel content in the know-how that they won’t get damaged.
41. How do I remove the mess left on my pipes and windows?
Professionals know how to do a tidy job, and if they do make a mess, they clear it up! If a company leaves the site stating the job is completed having left a mess than our suggestion is to call them and get them to clear it up!
However should you still want to know how to clear roof coating from pipes and windows then here’s what to do...........
Water will not wash off excess roof coating due to its permeability. In order to remove overspray roof coating the best thing to do is to get some muslin or some other unwanted cloth and soak it in white spirit. Then rub it as hard as you can. Once it has mist over you can wipe it with a clean cloth. You can also clean roof coating off windows and glass with white spirit although we recommend you also use a scraper.
Should your driveway be speckled with paint spots then a wire brush with a high pressure hose should do the trick.
AQUA PROTECTION takes special care to protect areas like windows, pipes, and driveways so you don’t have to clear up the mess when we leave. However if you have been unfortunate enough to have come across a messy roof coatings company then we hope this information has proven useful.
42. Will my fish pond be protected from the products used on my roof?
Aqua Protection is passionate about roofs, but also works hard to protect the environment and all that live in it. We protect ponds and the fish within the pond with a cover so that the roof coating does not pollute the water.
Without a cover the fish would be cut off from their air supply by a fine oily film on the surface of the water. Roof coatings under no circumstances should contaminate a water supply and Aqua Protection does everything in their power to make sure that this doesn’t happen.
43. Is your roof coating dangerous to domestic pets and if so what about my dog?
Aqua Protection take health and safety issues very seriously. It is important to note that ALL coatings and paints are harmful to animals. It is vital that all animals and children be kept away from any construction related material on your property. Aqua Protection kindly asks you to keep all animals and children as far away from the construction site as possible to avoid a serious accident.
44. Are your members of staff fully insured?
Yes they certainly are. It is a legal requirement for us to have insurance and we are happy it is too! You are free to request evidence of the insurance at any time.
45. Do you take on work on commercial properties?
Yes we do. We deal with residential and commercial buildings, anything that has a roof really. From cafes to factories, from guest houses to hotels, whatever type of establishment you have, we can help. Whether your roof is one of concrete or clay tiles, the Aqua Protection System can be applied
46. Can you coat over an existing roof coating?
We don’t find it works well to add a roof coating to an existing roof coating. We usually have to remove the existing coating before applying another. In order for the new coating to stick to the roof effectively, the old coating usually needs to be removed. A qualified Surveyor will be able to advise you on this matter when surveying your roof.
47. Are there any hidden costs?
Aqua Protection believes in fair trading so the price stated in the quote is the price you pay. Should we discover along the way that further work is needed then we do this free of charge and do not add this to the final bill. The final bill is exactly the same as the quote and includes all materials, labour, scaffolding and VAT.
The Surveyor who comes to visit your property and provides you with a quote is not a salesman. They are not in the business of playing number games and purely say it like it is.
48. Do I need a builder to do the repair work before you come?
No certainly not. You don’t need a builder at all. Aqua Protection will do all the repairs as part of our service.
We do a vast variety of repairs including the following:
DPC – Injecting damp proof courses
Treating penetrating damp
Eliminating algae
Removing mould and moss
Re-pointing or replacing bricks
Removing old loose paint
Repairs to Tyrolean, pebbledash, spar dash
Rendering
Filling in holes
Correcting previously carried out repairs
Removing unwanted objects if requested
49. I have a specific colour in mind that isn't on your colour chart. Can you do it?
Yes we can. Our colour charts only include the most popular colours. We can match virtually any colour of paint that you like whether a traditional colour for a historic building or a vibrant colour for a dainty cottage. Just provide us with the can of paint or swatch that you would like to match and we will do our best to come up with a matching colour.
However it is important to note that some larger paint manufacturers’ paints are sometimes protected by trade mark so cannot be matched precisely for legal reasons.
If you don’t have a specific colour in mind then we would be happy to show you our wealth of examples of colour effects and schemes available in the Aqua Protection range.
50. Will this roof coating form part of my HIP (home information pack)?
Yes it will. If you are selling a home after September 2007 and have 3 or more bedrooms then you will need to provide a HIP (Home Information Pack). Once your work has been completed by Aqua Protection then you will be supplied with a formal 15 year guarantee. It is recommended that you include this guarantee in your HIP and use it as a selling point to potential buyers. Any buyer will be happy in the knowledge that they will not need roof maintenance for a minimum of 15 years.
51. Why do you not include prices on your website?
We like to be fair to you and not lead you up the wrong garden path! Every house and roof is different, and so is the work that needs doing to it. A skilled Surveyor will need to view your property before being able to come up with a quote. We understand it may be inconvenient for some people but it really is the only way to get an accurate price.
52. Do you repair very small roofs?
We really need to see a roof before we can say whether it is a job that we can take on. However if the roof is a single very small roof then usually we cannot.
This is simply down to logistics. Our teams travel hundreds of miles around the country to work on roofs and due to the price of accommodation and travel we can’t take on very small projects.
A rough indication would be that if your roof is less than 50 sqm then we will probably not be able to do the work for you. We may however be able to point you in the right direction.

53. Can I have a brochure sent to me please?
I am sorry but Aqua Protection does not send out brochures. Aqua Protection is environmentally conscious and so do not participate in any form of direct mail-out or leaflet distribution. We like trees and want to do our part in keeping them on the planet.
We are however able to supply you with a wealth of information via our website, and of course from our Surveyor at the point of survey.
